A FAMILY favourite dessert is enjoying a renaissance since production restarted at a North Yorkshire firm.

More than 25 miles of Arctic Roll were sold each month by Birds Eye during the Eighties, but sales slumped in the Nineties and production ceased.

But since R&R Ice Cream – the UK’s largest volume manufacturer of ice cream – re-started production last December at its Leeming Bar site in North Yorkshire, demand has rocketed.

The range has achieved £6m of retail sales during the year and more than two million UK households have bought the product since its re-launch.

The Arctic Roll is not the only retro ice cream brand to be enjoying success.

Last year, R&R Ice Cream revived the Lyons Maid brand and added further products, including a Lyons Maid ice cream roll, which is also made at Leeming Bar.
