CONSTRUCTION company Whelan said it remains confident of hitting its predicted £30m turnover after winning numerous, significant contracts despite the economy.
The company, based in Gosforth, has completed several projects so far this year, and said it will look at bidding for more work across the region during the second half of the year to consolidate the business further.
Projects already completed, or due for completion in the coming weeks, include a £1.75m deal to work on the Coopers building development in Newcastle, a 60,000sq ft development on Cleveland Retail Park, and a £1.9m newbuild doctor’s surgery in Stockton.
Work is also well under way on an £8.4m contract to build 42 affordable flats and a care home on the Great North Park site. The company, which has been operating for more than 35 years, is also working on a £20m redevelopment in Newcastle’s New Bridge Street.
Whelan has also been working in conjunction with Middlesbrough College at the Cleveland Retail Park and Stockton sites, and has helped provide students with real experience of the industry.
Tony Whelan, managing director of Whelan Construction, said: “It is hugely satisfying that we have completed a number of high-profile projects on time and within budget, but most importantly maintained high levels of customer satisfaction.
“We have a team of which I am truly proud. However, we won’t be resting on our laurels we will continue to analyse our best practices and methodologies to work smarter and push forward so that we are in good shape to take on more projects once business picks up again.”
