THE world’s most advanced humanoid robot has made its second visit to the region to inspire young engineers.
Asimo, the robot made famous by Honda television adverts, visited the Youth Engineering Show on Wearside for the second consecutive year, as one of numerous features to encourage youngsters to get involved in engineering.
The three-day event, held at the Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton-le- Spring, will be attended by 7,000 11 to 14-year-olds from across the region.
As well as walking, Asimo – which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility – can now use sensors to interact with people, holding their hand, talking and serving a drink.
The world-leading robot is the culmination of more than 20 years of research.
