AN ENVIRONMENTAL consultancy has announced a 73 per cent increase in revenue for the last year, the largest rise in the group’s 15-year history.

SLR, which has an office in Newcastle, experienced an increase in turnover to £54.6m – up from £31.6m in the previous year – for the year ending October 31, 2008.

The company, whose clients include Biffa Waste Services, Balfour Beatty and Northumbria and Newcastle Universities, also sustained a high level of repeat revenue, with 55 per cent of income coming from clients of more than five years standing.

Spokesman Will Higson said: “This is a very strong performance and our Newcastle team is proud that it has been able to contribute.”

The company’s Newcastle office, which opened as Insite Environments in 1992 and became part of SLR Consulting in 2007, now employs 25 environmental consultants including specialists in landscape architecture, waste management and architectural visualisation.
