SURVEILLANCE specialist 2020 Vision has won a contract worth more than £100,000 to provide security for the region’s newest visitor attraction.

The Tyneside company has installed 45 cameras in the Great North Museum, in Newcastle, which re-opened last weekend after a £26m refurbishment of the former Hancock Museum.

The surveillance company, based in North Shields, North Tyneside, has created a system which will offer constant full operational control and security monitoring from the Newcastle University security control room, with local control and display provided in the museum’s command centre.

2020 Vision was chosen as supplier of choice for the contract through its ongoing links with the university.

The advanced technology supplied by 2020 Vision allows all cameras to record digitally, producing 25 images per second. All external cameras have colour switching technology which are optimised when light levels fall.

Peter Houlis, managing director of 2020 Vision, said: “It has been a great achievement to have the chance to work on such a high-profile project. We’ve worked in conjunction with Newcastle University for a number of years now and we are proud that they called upon us again to assist with their security needs.”
