HUNDREDS of workers at vanmaker LDV were warned yesterday there was no guarantee all their jobs would be saved despite a last-minute rescue to prevent the firm going bust.
A court hearing originally expected to place the Birmingham- based firm into administration was adjourned yesterday after a judge was told Russian owners Gaz had agreed in principle to sell its entire shareholding in LDV to Malaysian company Weststar.
Talks to complete a takeover of the firm will continue following a Government decision to offer a loan of up to £5m to help save the factory, which employs 850 workers.
LDV spokesman Guy Jones said the proposed deal will secure “as many jobs as possible”, but he warned there was no guarantee they would all be saved.
‘‘We hope with the launch of exciting products, we will be able to create jobs.’’ The factory has been at a standstill since before Christmas and there had been growing fears about its future before the surprise announcement of Weststar’s move.
LDV’s management yesterday issued a statement thanking the Government, Birmingham Hodge Hill MP and Cabinet Office minister Liam Byrne and other “key parties” involved in helping secure a future for the firm.
