A CLEANING company set up by a North-East mother and daughter has taken on another family member as its first employee.

Scrubba’s was set up by cleaner Adele Whitfield and her unemployed mother Brenda to offer a full cleaning service for commercial and domestic clients, with everything from cleaning offices to doing the ironing.

After running since January last year, the company based in Consett, County Durham, is taking on its first member of staff in Sandra Bell, Brenda’s sister and Adele’s aunty. Adele said the company’s first year in business has gone well.

“We have been trading for just over a year and have just taken on our first member of staff,” she said.

“We offer commercial and domestic cleaning, but at the minute we mostly do cleaning for private residents. We do general housework, ironing and when we are done everything is absolutley spotless.”

Scrubba’s was set up with the support of Be Enterprising, the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative for the area, which supports enterprise in deprived communities. Funds were used to buy products and equipment, and helped to pay for Adele to learn to drive.

Michelle Rose, Scrubba’s Be Enterprising coach, said: “Brenda and Adele have a great work ethic and their enthusiasm and drive is an inspiration.

They came to us with a business idea and we were happy to help put them on the right track.”
