A CREAMERY is to provide 100 tonnes of cheese a year for sandwiches being sold by retailer Marks and Spencer under a new deal.
The Wensleydale Creamery, based in Hawes, North Yorkshire, has secured the contract to supply cheese to one of the UK’s leading sandwich manufacturers, Uniq Prepared Foods.
The company, which employs more than 200 staff, will be supplying Uniq with 100 tonnes a year of its Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.
It will be used in their Wensleydale and carrot chutney sandwiches sold in M&S stores across the country.
The Wensleydale Creamery’s managing director David Hartley said: “A 100 tonnes a year is a substantial order for our Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese and will further enhance the strength of our business.
“Marks and Spencer is a company renowned for its insistence on top-class products, as well as being one of the most well-known names in the British high street. Therefore, to have our Real Yorkshire Wensleydale on its shelves is yet another validation of the quality of our cheeses.”
Uniq Prepared Foods’ business manager Rachel Arthur said: “We pride ourselves on only using the finest quality ingredients in the sandwiches and wraps we supply to our customers.”
Food to Go buyer Yseult Caroff-Richeux, of M&S, said: “Marks and Spencer is proud to support British products and Real Yorkshire Wensleydale is a welcome addition.”
