THE director of future media and technology at the BBC, Wired UK’s deputy editor, and two design experts are the latest leading technology figures who have signed up to speak at the region’s Thinking Digital Conference.

In total, 25 speakers will address the conference, at the Gateshead Sage, from May 13 to 15, which looks at the ideas and innovations that are having, or soon will have, a major impact on society.

The latest high-profile figures to confirm their attendance are Erik Huggers from the BBC – responsible for the corporation’s internet, interactive television and mobile services – and Ben Hammersley, deputy editor of Wired UK, who is credited with coining the term “podcast”.

Technology experts Russell Davies and Ben Terrett are also new confirmations as speakers, and join others including Alex Hunter, head of online marketing at Virgin, and Newsweek journalist Dan Lyons.

Herb Kim, Thinking Digital conference director, and chief executive of conference organiser Codeworks, said: “We’re honoured that speakers of this calibre have decided to join us in North-East England. We look forward to welcoming them to our region and in hearing their views.”

Just over 30 places remain for the 400-capactiy conference, which is expected to sell out. To sign up, visit thinkingdigital.co.uk
