BUILDERS’ merchant JT Dove has invested £1.5m in opening a North-East depot.

The base has been opened in Stockton as part of the company’s continuing expansion plans. The 1.6-acre site includes a 15,000sq ft warehouse, which will be open to the trade and the public.

The company is preparing to branch out into new divisions of the building industry, including plumbing, heating and landscaping, and a bathroom showroom is also planned at the Stockton site.

The depot, the company’s tenth outlet, is JT Dove’s first opening this year, which is marking its 140th year in business. Last year, it relocated to £1.6m headquarters in Newburn, on Tyneside.

Steve Robinson, managing director, said: “The investment is being driven by JT Dove’s ambitious growth targets and a need to optimise operations so that we remain the regions’ leading building merchants.”
