A COMPANY which develops software for visually-impaired and blind computer users is gearing up for worldwide recognition.
As a result of a contract secured by its new owner, Dolphin Computer Access, Software Express Limited, based in Durham, will see its products sold in more than 50 countrues.
It will retain its County Durham base and continue to employ ten staff.
Worcester-based Dolphin Computer Access also develops software to enable visually impaired people to use computers, and has offices in the UK, the US and Sweden.
Its customers include Microsoft, the Inland Revenue, BBC, the Royal Air Force and Vodafone.
The combined expansion strategy will centre on taking Software Express’ flagship product, Guide, worldwide.
Dolphin Computer Access’ banking partner of 20 years, Lloyds TSB Commercial, helped with funding.
Noel Duffy, managing director of the Dolphin Computer Access group, said: “The acquisition of Software Express broadens the Dolphin brand portfolio and offers the business the flexibility to deliver easy-to-use solutions to the fastest growing sector of the access technology market – the over 60s.
“Dolphin has made significant strides over recent years in transforming into an organisation that is squarely focused on creating easy-to-use software tools that meet the needs of our vision and print impaired customers.
“The acquisition will further accelerate this process for both companies.”
Mark Smith, relationship director at Lloyds TSB Commercial, in Worcester, said: “Software Express is a great strategic fit for Dolphin Computer Access and this deal will enable the business to target further international growth.”
