A STUDY into the future use of a six-mile stretch of the River Tyne is due to be published next month.

Scores of companies globally are said to be eagerly awaiting the results of the report, which has been compiled by North Tyneside and Newcastle City councils, together with One NorthEast.

The draft copy of the study, published before the summer, pointed to a positive industrial future for the stretch of land, from Smith's Dock, North Shields, to Walker Riverside, and the creation of hundreds of jobs.

A North Tyneside Council spokesman said: "There is significant potential for new employment and opportunities and research suggests that marine related development will play a major part in that."
