A CARPET firm is relocating to bigger premises in the region, leading to the creation of jobs.
Gaskell Mackay Carpets, formerly Hugh Mackay and now part of the Whitestone Weavers group, is moving from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool in the New Year. It is in the process of refurbishing the former Carpets International yarn plant, which occupies an eight-acre site on Park View Industrial Estate, in Hartlepool
Gaskells, along with sister company Whitestone Weavers, will move into the modernised unit in January.
Steve Byrne, manager of Whitestone Weavers, said: "The move to Hartlepool from our current premises in Middlesbrough represents a significant investment.
"The new site will expand capacity, helping to streamline our operation with increased stock levels, faster distribution and a more efficient service.
"It's good news for the company and good news for Hartlepool."
The company, established in 1991, bought the intellectual property rights of Gaskell Mackay last year.
The Hugh Mackay name was synonymous with the Wilton and Axminster brand names and boasted big name clients including Caesar's Palace casino in Las Vegas, and Windsor Castle.
Mr Byrne said: "The move to Hartlepool represents an incredibly exciting time in the company's development. We're looking forward to moving in and moving the company on."
