COLLEAGUES Eric Moran and Eric Turpin are putting redundancy behind them to launch an environmentally friendly cleaning company.
The pair worked in the engineering sector of an international tyre company before they were made redundant in October last year.
They have now launched cleaning company CryoNorthern, which uses dry ice -solid carbon dioxide pellets -to clean surfaces.
Mr Turpin, 51, said the system was quicker, more cost effective and more environmentally friendly than traditional blast methods using sand or grit.
He said: "Cryogenic cleaning is able to remove most stains and deposits, including oil, rust and bacteria, making it ideal for a range of industries, from food services to engineering manufacturers.
"Given that this is a dry process, it is particularly beneficial for industries where moisture-based cleaning methods cannot be used."
The pair, both from Sunderland, received support and help from the North-East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC).
Mr Moran, 52, said: "The BIC has continually supported us through the process, advising us on business plans, grants and marketing material."
Willie Herdman, from the centre, said: "We are committed to supporting companies like this, helping them to take positive steps to succeed and flourish."
