A FIRM behind £1.5bn mine plans is holding public exhibitions over its revised proposals.

Sirius Minerals wants to extract millions of tonnes of the fertiliser polyhalite from under the North York Moors National Park at Sneaton, near Whitby.

Bosses say the York Potash project could create about 1,000 jobs.

The plans also include a transport system to move the mineral to Teesside.

The company will submit a planning application to the North York Moors National Park Authority and applications for transport operations to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and the North York Moors National Park Authority.

The project stalled last year when bosses deferred sending plans to the National Park to address environmental concerns.

The firm already has agreements to send millions of tonnes of polyhalite to companies in China, Latin America, the US and Africa.
