A DELEGATION from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) yesterday travelled to Number 10 Downing Street to share details of their export plans.
The Prime Minister David Cameron’s team was keen to hear about the challenges, barriers and opportunities micro, small and medium businesses face around exports. In particular, the PM wants know how Government can help in the future.
Research from the FSB shows that more small businesses are looking to export goods and services. The organisation wants the Government and its agencies to underpin the domestic economic recovery with new export growth by improving guidance to new markets and customers and helping communicate about business leads.
Annie Barr, of the FSB in the North-East, was among the delegation. She said: “Small businesses in the North-East have a major part to play if the Government is to meet its challenging targets for 100,000 new exporters and to double the value of exports by 2020. Starting to export is a big step for small firms.
“ I was delighted to be part of the FSB team to express our views directly at 10 Downing Street. It’s important the Prime Minister understands what is holding us back and what needs to be done.”
