A PORT is working with an energy firm to support an offshore development.
Port of Sunderland welcomed the Atlantic Carrier vessel, which docked in the region ahead of work on Eon's Humber Gateway windfarm.
The vessel was prepared for work on laying cables on the windfarm, that is expected to power up to 170,000 homes when completed next year.
Last year, the port took delivery of two 600 tonne substations from Belgium for Eon, which will be based in the region before being shipped to the Humber.
Matthew Hunt, port director, said: “While the vessel was mobilised, the port lifted a 95-tonne carousel on its back deck.
“This project has been very exciting project and I’m delighted we’ve been able to help Eon.”
Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council and chairman of the port board, added: “We’ve made great contacts with key industry leaders and hope to cement this relationship to accommodate further work in the future.”
