A NORTH-EAST transport firm is launching new gas buses.
Stagecoach North-East will start running 17 vehicles in Sunderland this month after investing £2.5m in the vehicles and £1m in its city depot, which includes a gas plant to supply fuel.
The biomethane gas buses follow the introduction of 21 vehicles in the city last year.
Phil Medlicott, Stagecoach North-East's managing director, said: “The buses are a testament to our green agenda as we continue to reduce our carbon footprint, and with the lower carbon emissions, it means a better environment for local people.”
Stagecoach North East employs more than 1,600 workers across Sunderland, Hartlepool, Teesside, Newcastle and South Shields, South Tyneside.
