A GLOBAL engineering company has called on a North-East training charity to support the development of technicians for the oil and gas industry.
The TTE Technical Training Group in Middlesbrough is delivering a Re-Engineer programme for Amec, which employs about 400 staff at its European engineering headquarters in Darlington.
Upon successful completion of the eight week programme, the group of five technicians who are from across the UK, will be deployed on onshore and offshore facilities.
The programme combines knowledge and practical skills with 80 per cent delivered in TTE’s high-specification workshops and 20 per cent in the classroom.
Steve Grant, managing director of Middlesbrough-based TTE, said: “There is a real demand for skilled and competent technicians from the oil & gas industry and programmes such as this are playing a part in helping companies such as Amec re-engineer individuals for careers in the sector.”
He added: “We have developed a suite of facilities and programmes led by industry-experienced trainers that meet the requirements of the oil & gas industry in the UK and around the world.
These Amec technicians are utilising a range of facilities and equipment at our training centre that will effectively prepare them for their future roles in the oil & gas sector.”
Alick Watt, a spokesperson for Amec, said: “Attracting new talent into oil and gas is vital to the future success of the industry.
We’ve had great success placing re-skilled technicians across our North Sea business and Amec is pleased to support such an important industry initiative.”
