THE final section of the first Central North Sea oil platform to be custom-built in the UK for 25 years has been completed in the North-East.

The topside module will be towed down the River Tyne this evening. It will then be transported to the Forties Field, 110 miles offshore from Aberdeen.

The contract for the design and build of the £400m platform was awarded to Wallsend-based OGN in 2010. It has provided 2,000 jobs at the firm's Hadrian Yard and supported an estimated 5,000 jobs in the supply chain.
