A North-East technology and project management firm has secured a £2.6m deal to help install a gas platform above the Arctic Circle.
The Aasta Hansteen project is another major contract for Middlesbrough-based Unasys and follows on from its work on offshore platforms made in the USA as part of the Castor Underground Gas Storage facility in Spain.
The latest project will see Unasys, which is based at the Boho One technology hub, lend its project management expertise to the building and deployment of the platform located above the Arctic Circle, roughly 186 miles offshore in 4,265 feet of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. In addition, Unasys will be providing specialist staff for the spar section of the project which sits below the waterline.
Unasys, which is a member of UK business development organisation, NOF Energy, provides hook-up, commissioning and completions services. Since it was set up in 2000 Unasys has delivered its specialist services to manage the complexities of project start-up and close out. The firm has a team of six and a network of some 80 subcontractors and engineers.
Michael Flynn, Unasys director said: “I am pleased to announce that Unasys will be working with Technip USA on the Aasta Hansteen project. This is a major project and shows that Unasys are firmly established in this sector.
"The success of the bid was down to both the experience of the Unasys network, many of which have worked on similar oil and gas projects throughout the world in the past 25 years, in addition to working alongside NOF Energy in establishing routes and connections into new markets and projects."
Joanne Leng, deputy chief executive of NOF Energy, said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for Unasys and demonstrates the company’s growing reputation for technology-led engineering solutions. It also highlights the benefits of engaging with new markets, which Unasys have so successfully done by utilising the services and support provided by NOF Energy.”
