A FIRM supplying temporary buildings, which are used by workers on construction sites, has created its own Olympic Games legacy.
Portakabin, based in York, sent 600 modules to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and says it is now recycling the cabins on other projects, including the world's largest fresh milk dairy, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
The company's buildings were one of the first on the Olympic site in 2008 and housed about 400 Games staff, with offices, security facilities and a training centre.
During the event, more cabins were used as a command control centre and studios for US television company, NBC, with extra broadcasting bases for sailing at Weymouth and Eton Dorney rowing events.
Robert Snook, Portakabin director and general manager, said: “We are very proud to have played such a significant role in the London Olympic Games at every stage of its development and operation.
“Everyone who visited or worked at the Olympic Park had to pass through one of our complexes and it is also a significant achievement that all the buildings were redeployed to other sites and projects, reaffirming the fantastic Games legacy.”
