A NORTH East racecourse is preparing for its final race of the season before returning with its annual Ladies Evening in the summer.

Sedgefield Racecourse will be taking a break for the racing season after hosting its JG Paxton’s raceday on Tuesday, May 14 before returning with its most glamorous race night of the year, Ladies Evening in August.

The annual raceday, which gets started at 2pm and will include seven races, is sponsored by JG Paxton’s, a family-owned agricultural machinery dealership which has served farmers since 1853.

The company also supply the racecourse with equipment needed to maintain the track and grounds and this is the fourth year that JG Paxton’s has supported the last raceday of the season.

Jill Williamson, general manager at Sedgefield Racecourse, said: “JG Paxton’s regularly supports the racecourse throughout the year - they even have their own stand at the racecourse, and their agricultural support is vital over the spring season.

"Although this is the last race before the summer season, there are plenty of events taking place to keep everybody entertained, not to mention the much anticipated Miss Durham final at the end of May.

“The team are also gearing up for the Game and Country Fair in July, to include pet competitions, clay pigeon shooting, climbing walls and much more. It’s set to be a great occasion for all of the family.”

Grandstand and Paddock admission tickets can be purchased for £13 when booked in advance. For further package information or to book tickets call 01740 621925 or visit www.sedgefield-racecourse.co.uk.
