I WAS interested to read Denis Smith’s letter to (HAS, Mar 19) regarding, among other things, the partial reopening of the Leamside Line. His suggestion of opening to Wardley from Belmont goes so far, but for what this rebuild would cost (£400 to £500m is a “gestimate”) whole reopening should be considered.

CRITICISM regarding census registration is correct (HAS, Mar 20). I don’t have any computer gear and had to ask a relative to go online and get me a paper form. Trying to phone is impossible – the electronic voice says “We are very busy”, “You are number 232 in the queue”, “Could you phone back in March 2031”!

IT was particularly sad when Cllr Heather Scott and Peter Gibson MP, in their haste to score points over their opponents in the article about the proposed Skerningham Garden Village (Echo, Mar 17), did not mention the residents in north east Darlington who will have to live alongside this monstrosity and will be adversely affected by it.
