NORTH Yorkshire racehorse trainer Karl Burke has had his appeal against a one-year ban dismissed by the British Horseracing Authority.
Burke, based at Middleham, was warned off after admitting passing information for reward at a hearing last month, but had hoped to get his punishment reduced.
However, the BHA's appeal board, chaired by Sir William Gage, rejected his appeal on Monday and ordered Burke to forfeit his £800 deposit and pay £4,000 towards costs.
Burke, who sent out Lord Shanakill to win the Group One Prix Jean Prat earlier in the season, had his suspension confirmed last month after a long-running investigation.
He initially requested a stay on the ban pending his appeal, but that application was rejected by the BHA late last month.
Burke then transferred his Spigot Lodge string to the care of his father-in-law Alan Jarvis.
