DURHAM'S search for a spinner has seen them hand a trial to former Yorkshire prospect Gurman Randhawa and he is in a 12-man squad for the Second XI Twenty20 finals day at Arundel tomorrow.
The Huddersfield-born left-armer came up through the Yorkshire ranks from under 13 level and played for England Under 19s.
He played one first-class match at Durham University in 2011 but was released at the end of the 2013 season, during which he was hit for six sixes in an over by Lancashire's Jordan Clark in a second team match at Scarborough.
Now 23, he funded his own trip to the Bishen Bedi School in India last winter and has been playing as a professional for Shropshire this season.
Also in tomorrow's squad is Durham University's Ed Pollock, a 20-year-old left-handed batsman from Buckinghamshire. He scored a century for the seconds away to Northamptonshire last week.
Graham Clark will captain the side, which also includes Phil Mustard, so Durham will hope everything is concluded in the day as those two will be required for first team T20 duty at home to Nottinghamshire on Friday.
After losing only one of their 12 group games, Durham face Kent and can expect to come up against Ben Harmison. The other semi-final involves Lancashire and Middlesex.
Durham (from): G Clark (capt), J Burnham, P Mustard, A Hickey, E Pollock, D Budge, C Harvey, J Weighell, R Buckley, B McCarthy, G Randhawa, B Whitehead
