LEE CATTERMOLE'S proposed deadline day to Stoke City has collapsed, and the midfielder now looks like remaining at the Stadium of Light.
Earlier today, it looked as though Cattermole was set to complete a £5m switch from Wearside after missing training and heading to the Potteries.
However, the deal has collpased and it understood Sunderland pulled the plug when they were unable to recruit the player they had earmarked as Cattermole's replacement.
It remains to be seen whether Stoke up their offer again in an attempt to resurrect a deal, but as things stand, Cattermole will remain a Sunderland player.
He will not be involved in tomorrow's Tyne-Wear derby, however, as he is nursing an injury.
