FORMER Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips will have one more crack at the Premier League after signing a one-year deal with top-flight new boys Crystal Palace.
Phillips, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on Thursday, spent the second half of last season on loan at Palace from Blackpool.
He scored the winner in the Championship play-off final, and has been rewarded with a new deal that will see him become only the third outfield player to play in the Premier League in his 40s.
Phillips will follow in the footsteps of Teddy Sheringham and Gordon Strachan, and could make an emotional appearance against Sunderland next month when the Black Cats visit Selhurst Park on August 31.

TOTTENHAM have agreed a £7m deal with FC Twente to sign highly-rated Belgian winger Nacer Chadli.
Chadli, who boasts 14 full international caps, is due to undergo a medical before flying out to Hong Kong to join the rest of Tottenham's players ahead of the start of the Barclays Asia Trophy.
He could make his first appearance in a Spurs shirt when Andre Villas-Boas' side take on Sunderland in their opening Asia Trophy game on Wednesday.

WAYNE ROONEY appears to be edging closer to a move to Chelsea, despite Manchester United's continued insistence that he is not for sale.
Chelsea are preparing a £40m offer for the England international, who is disillusioned with life at Old Trafford after David Moyes suggested he would be second choice behind Robin van Persie next season.
Rooney is understood to be open to the suggestion of a move to Chelsea, but Manchester United officials are likely to drive a hard bargain before sanctioning his departure.

JOSE MOURINHO has warned John Terry that he is not guaranteed a place in Chelsea's first-choice starting line-up next season.
Terry barely featured under Rafael Bentiez last season, but it had been assumed that Mourinho's return would immediately result in him returning to his previous status as one of Chelsea's key performers.
However, Mourinho insists Terry must prove himself anew if he is to overtake Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.

ANDRE SANTOS has left Arsenal to return to his homeland and join Brazilian side Flamengo.
Santos joined the Gunners from Fenerbahce in a £6.2m move in 2011, but failed to establish himself in Arsenal's first team.
He went back to Brazil to join Gremio on loan in January, and has now made a permanent move to Flamengo.
