THE closure of Darlington’s Crown Street Library (Echo, July 17) is just another case of a council flexing its muscles, as it was with Durham County Council’s closure of the DLI Museum and obviously giving Windlestone Hall away for a mere pittance.
How many other disgraceful acts of vandalism and sheer incompetence are our councils – town or county – guilty of?
I fear a professional independent body needs setting up made of determined, compassionate, competent, intelligent souls to investigate.
Are there not enough empty buildings in Darlington – soon to be increased by Binns, Marks & Spencer?
And now the library.
