A TEENAGER has been named Student Governor of the Year for ensuring that the views of his fellow pupils are heard.
Darren Melroy from Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough was presented with his accolade at the national LSIS (Learning and Skills Improvement Service) Leading the Learner Voice Awards 2013 which took place in London.
The 17-year-old from Middlesbrough, who completed a year as the college’s students’ union president and is studying Law at Durham University from September, said: “I’m thrilled to have won the award on what was a very enjoyable day.
"During my time at Prior Pursglove I have really enjoyed being a student governor and it’s been a fantastic opportunity to get involved further within college and have a real influence on decisions that matter to students."
Principal Judy Burton, added: “Darren has excelled over the two years he has been at Prior and it is very fitting that he has been rewarded for his efforts.”
