A TEENAGE adrenaline junkie is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise cash for children and community projects in some of the poorest countries in the world.
Chloe Richardson, 19, from Skeeby, near Richmond, will take on the climbing challenge in June with a group of fellow fundraisers from Durham University, where she is studying sport and physical activity.
Miss Richardson is well-known in local trial-biking circles and has competed in the Scott Trial for the last three years, last year being one of three women who completed the event within the allotted time.
She said: “A group of us will be climbing Kilimanjaro in June. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and we are raising money for two amazing charities, Save the Children and The Future Sense Foundation, which supports community development in some of the poorest regions of the world.
“After climbing the mountain we have the chance to visit a Save the Children project while in Tanzania.”
Miss Richardson will attempt to scale the 5,893m mountain in five to six days, and has already completed a snowy climb of Helvellyn in the Lake District as part of her training.
She said: “It was a tough climb because I went during the Christmas holiday and there was a lot of snow but it was good training.
“I’m going to do the Three Peaks at Easter too. I’m really looking forward to getting to Kilimanjaro.
“All my family know me as an adrenalin junkie – I’ve been riding trial bikes since I was seven and I’m competing in the World Championships in May and September.”
