PLANNED road closures have been announced to make way for a night to remember in one North-East village.
Olympic gymnast Amy Tinkler will join Heighington villagers on Tuesday, November 29, to light up the green as part of a traditional sing-a-long carol concert.
Heighington teenager Kieran Maxwell will be the guest of honour during the evening as the community comes together to raise funds for the Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust.
To ensure as many residents as possible can attend the event, a lane linking Darlington Road and West Green will be closed to all traffic from 8am on Tuesday, November 29, until 10am on Wednesday, November 30.
Darlington Road will also be closed throughout the afternoon and evening on Tuesday, November 29, to make way for the annual celebration that begins at 6.30pm.
Ward councillor Gerald Lee said: “During the afternoon of the November 29, bollards will be put down the main road through Heighington to keep the main road clear.
“Vehicle parking therefore, will be restricted. Villagers should all walk to the event and if you have to drive, try car sharing.”
