WITNESSES to a fight which broke out between rival football fans before a cup final are being urged to contact police.
Fans of West Auckland Town and Dunston UTS had gathered at the Green Man Hotel in London on Sunday before going to Wembley stadium to watch the FA Vase final on Sunday.
At about 1.40pm a fight started between some of the fans at the pub on Dagmar Avenue in Wembley.
A 52-year-old man believed to be from the West Auckland area was left with a cut on the back of his head after being it with a bottle.
The victim was taken to a hospital in London for treatment but his injures were not said to be life-threatening.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said no arrests have yet been made and are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
More than 5,000 fans from the North East made the trip to Wembley to see Gateshead-based Dunston UTS beat County Durham side West Auckland 2-0 in the FA Vase final.
