WETHERBY hosts top-class racing over Jumps, and although this edition of Racing North is a guide to the new Flat season, Wetherby has a lot to offer racegoers during the spring and autumn months.
Conveniently located adjacent to the A1, Wetherby stages a popular Family Day Sunday meeting on April 30, while there are two Thursday fixtures in May, one of which is an evening meeting, while the ever-popular Ladies Night on Thursday evening June 1, includes prizes for the best- dressed ladies.
The superbly-appointed Millennium Stand is a hugely impressive backdrop to racin, on the York Road site, which held its first meeting on Easter Monday, 1891.
The track is an exacting, yet fair test for both hurdlers and staying chasers, while the racing programme contains several high-profile contests, attracting potential leading contenders for both the Cheltenham and Grand National Festivals.
Wetherby's 2006/07 campaign over Jumps includes the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (won last year by Ollie Magern) which heads a quality card on Saturday, October 28.
The traditional two-day Sky Bet Christmas meeting features the Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase, and Castleford Chase on Boxing Day Tuesday and Wednesday, December 26 and 27 respectively.
