JV Madden Trophy: Grangetown BC 4 v 1 Nunthorpe Ath: Grangetown Boys Club started the brightest and took the lead after 21 minutes when 'keeper Chris Mason fumbled a long cross and the ball dropped to Ian McGowan, who fired home.
In the second half, Nunthorpe started off well and after 65 minutes pulled back to 1-1 when one of their new signings Peter Crawford fired the ball past keeper Stuart Clark. This lifted Nunthorpe and they pressed forward, but in the 75th minute the Boys Club took a 2-1 lead through Mark Ward. Two goals in the last ten minutes through Darren Morrison and Paul Cassidy ensured the Boys Club lifted their first trophy of the new season.
Season preview - Division One
BEADS FC: Management duo Barney Malone and Craig Blyth are hoping to pick up a number of new players (probably from the now disbanded Acklam Steelworks). They have already won two friendly games: beating second division side Whinney Banks 6-1, and Stokesley League side Middlesbrough Post Office, also 6-1. They have two more friendlies arranged against Northern League sides Thornaby and Dunston before their opening match of the season against New Marske SC.
Bedale FC: Manager Peter Grainger looks to have lost prolific Wayne Gredziak to new second division side Richmond Mavericks, but has added Mark Cobb from Thirsk Falcons. Russell Edwards is back after injury while Jimmy Machin and Nigel Binks have both joined. Their warm-up matches have included a 6-1 win over Army side ITC; a 5-1 victory over Thirsk side Topcliffe; a 10-0 win over Reef and a 7-0 success against Spennithorpe. They face a tricky match at Wolviston tomorrow.
Carlin How: Carlin How has the same squad as last season but hope to add Neil Hodgson from Marske United to their squad. Glen Smith will also be joining the club. They start their new season at home to Thornaby Youth Club.
Fishburn Park: The Whitby side have lost keeper Sam Dobbs to Northern League Northallerton while Dominic Gamble is going to America. However, manager Alan Price has moved quickly to plug the gaps ahead of their opener against Hartlepool, bringing in 16-year-old Jamie Sanderson and centre-back Paul Clever.
Grangetown BC: The League Champions/Macmillan Bowl and County Cup holders have lost impressive centre-back Calvin Foley, Dave Watson and last year's club captain Steve Cochrane to Northern League side Peterlee. Ian Williams has joined Billingham Synthonia and Paul Parkes has joined Marske United. Manager Trevor Coulton has added a number of youngsters from the second team and junior sides ahead of the season opener against
second division champions SMG Redstripes, including Anthony Williams and Darren Morrison.
Hartlepool FC: Former Teesside Arriva have kept all last season's squad and have added a number of youngsters from their newly-formed juniors. Jamie Fleming and James Parkinson have been included in the squad for their opening match with Fishburn Park
Mackinlay Park: Redcar side Mackinlay Park have lost Lee Wells and Michael Beach, but added to the remaining squad with Lee Roxby, a experienced midfielder, Billy Foy a midfielder or defender and a new young keeper in Lee Lucas. They hope to transfer Ian Young from New Marske and Chris Lax from Nunthorpe Athletic, who they will visit on the opening day.
New Marske SC: Manager Jimmy Allen has strengthened last season's squad with the signing of keeper Michael Beach. He has also transferred Lee Wells also from Mackinlay Park and added a couple of youngsters to his squad.
They face BEADS FC tomorrow.
Nunthorpe Athletic: After ex-manager Paul Burton took most of his successful side to Northern League side Northallerton Town, new management duo Steve Robson and Andy Robson have been left to build a team from scratch before their opening match of the season at home to Mackinlay Park.
Richmond Town: Manager Richard Dowson has lost the services of midfielder Darren Bond, who has taken up a work opportunity in Gibraltar and Carl Taite, who has joined Northallerton. They face a tricky opening home match against Thornaby Football Club.
SMG Redstripes: The Second Division Champions have added experienced centre-back Richard Watson and forward Adrian Smith to their squad and also have Rory Newton back. However, the Billingham side will have to do without the services of Michael Pugh and Lee Johnson ahead of their opening match away to league champions Grangetown Boys Club.
Thornaby FC: Last season's surprise package have added Wayne Mahoney, Craig Longstaff, Chris Allen and Martin Speight, all from local rivals Thornaby Youth Club, to their squad.
Thornaby YC: Manager Peter Burton has lost a number of players to local rivals Thornaby, but Chris Wrathmall has re-joined the club. They have also signed Darren Fixture. Phil Wright a central midfielder and Shaun Hunt have also joined.
Wolviston Res: Manager Steve Todd has lost the services of keeper Andy Ruddock, who has been replaced by youngster Gary Hayes. Todd, however, has bolstered his squad ahead of the season opener with title favourites Bedale with the signings of Steve McPartland, forward Andy Harris, Danny Lawson and Jamie Walton.
Division Two
Billingham Wanderers: Gary Bint is back at the club after cutting short his round-the-world tour. Paul Arnold, a strong centre-forward, has joined.
Darlington Albion: One of the four new clubs to join the second division, Albion are hoping to get off to a bright start and have speedy winger Roddy Brown supplying the ammunition for Gary Mitchell.
Darlington Cleveland Bridge: Darlington have added a number of youngsters to last season's squad with Graham Wedge, Wayne King, Chris Bellwood, Chris Airey and James Woodford all joining the squad. During pre-season they beat Wearside League side Barnard Castle Glaxo 3-1, Ferryhill 2-1, but drew 2-2 with Brandon Station.
Darlington RA Reserves: Paul Adamson and Wilf Parkinson take charge after the side decided to change their name from Darlington RA Youth.
Dormans FC: The Middlesbrough side have a new management duo in Steve Burns of Acklam and Chris Fuller of Nunthorpe Athletic. They want to sign some more Acklam players, but due to all their players, including Steve Burns, being suspended by the League until Acklam Steelworks pay the fine levied against them for late resignation, they will have to start the season with what remains of last season's squad.
Guisborough Town Reserves: Looking likely to lose Richard Egan but have added Thomas Burk, defenders Peter Winter and Brian Gauchi and midfielder Graham Storr. They drew with local Guisborough rivals King's Head 1-1 and are looking forward to the season's opener at Redcar.
Teesside Athletic: The Redcar outfit have retained most of last season's squad and have also added forward Steve Lee Gent and centre-back Steven O'Sullivan.
Teesside Link: Have transferred Robert Shaw from Thornaby Youth Club. Teesside have also added Stuart Jackson, veteran midfielder Simon Overend and a keeper Stuart Newbold to their squad.
Whinney Banks: Having lost Nathan Jameson to Walsall, Whinney Banks have added a number of players, to their squad.
