One person is this morning in hospital after a crash on the A690 in County Durham.

The incident happened at about 7am on Wednesday (May 8) in near the leisure centre in Meadowfield on the main route on the outskirts of the city.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and traffic was diverted causing long delays at the beginning of the morning rush.

Details of the vehicles involved are yet to be confirmed.


One person was taken to hospital in Durham and the road has since reopened with traffic flowing freely again.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision this morning (8 May) shortly before 7am on A690 in Meadowfield, Durham. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham.”
