A body has been found in the search for a man who was reported missing earlier this week.

Northumbria Police have today (April 18) confirmed they have found a body in the search for Lee Grant, 44, reported missing from the Ashington area on Monday (April 15).

A body was found yesterday (April 17) afternoon.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but officers believe it to be Mr Grant.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Ashurst, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is an incredibly sad outcome and our thoughts are with Lee’s loved-ones at this very difficult time.

“We will continue to support them in any way we can and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“We thank everyone who shared our appeals, provided information and supported our search for Lee.”

His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers have said they do not believe there to be any third-party involvement will prepare a report for the coroner once formal identification has been completed.
