Police taped off a section of Shildon's Main Street late yesterday (Wednesday, November 15), with officers standing guard overnight.
Cordons were erected on an area of the Main Street in Shildon last night, close to Shildon Express.
According to witnesses, two police vans were in attendance, with officers guarding the scene.
The nature of the incident has not been confirmed. Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.

An eye witness, who did not wish to be named, told The Northern Echo: "Police have taped off the area. It's down a very narrow lane.
"There are two police vans with officers just guarding the scene at the moment.
"It's right outside the Shildon Express. It's literally at the back of the town police station."
