A group of North East Jewish residents have staged a vigil in Durham calling for a 'stop to the slaughter in Gaza'.
They were in the Market Place and Durham Cathedral on Monday.
Their aim was to make it clear that protecting Jews at this difficult time does not have to mean supporting Israel’s war on Gaza.

One of the demonstrators, Marva Tannenbaum, said: “I have family in Israel, I grew up there and know the terror of Hamas attacks.
"But Israeli military aggression only continues the cycle of violence."
The group said Rishi Sunak claims to be acting in support of British Jews by lending military support to Israel but many do not support a military campaign against the civilian population of Palestine.

They said the UK should work to de-escalate the situation, call for an immediate ceasefire and do everything it can to prevent further war crimes under international law.
Ms Tannenbaum said: "Ultimately, the cause of this violence is Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.
"We must cease fire and negotiate for release of hostages and for a just resolution to the conflict.”
