A new Mediterranean cafe has opened in Durham City today (Friday, September 22)
Manakeet, on Silver Street in the city peninsula, has opened its doors to customers for the first time today - and with a vast and diverse menu, it will be the perfect spot for breakfast and lunch.
The fresh new restaurant will sell a range of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern delicacies - from Arabic coffee to fresh watermelon juice and mixed mezze.

The opening of Manakeet builds on the success of similar businesses, such as Lebaneat, located on the Bailey, a cult favourite for their Lebanese dinners.
Located at the former site of Esquires, a popular coffee shop that closed down during lockdown, Manakeet has opened just in time for the influx of students returning to Durham for Michaelmas term.
Manakeet is not the only new opening in Durham - Silver Street and the surrounding area have seen many new cafes, restaurants and shops open their doors over the summer.

Faru - a fine dining experience - opened earlier in the year, with a 10-course tasting menu showcasing the "very best of local and British produce".
Cyclo 3.1 opened on North Road in early August, serving up Vietnamese Bahn Mi, a kind of meat-and-veg loaded baguette.
Signs have also been spotted hinting at other new venues coming for the town, and just next door to Manakeet, an Asian fusion restaurant will be 'coming soon'.
