A serious crash saw two hospitalised yesterday evening, and emergency services swarm a small Tyne and Wear village. 

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Easington Lane near Hetton-le-Hole shortly after 5 pm last night (September 13) following a crash on the A182, which runs through the village.

Now, new pictures have emerged from the scene, showing the collision between a blue car and a white van.

An eyewitness at the scene of the crash alleged: "The car mounted the curb outside of Hetton Social, and almost hit me - I had to jump out of the way. How someone hasn't been killed on this stretch of road is beyond me. 

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they had taken two people to hospital in Sunderland for treatment.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Easington Lane at 5.11pm this evening (13 September).

“We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, one ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

“Two patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
