A police dog has helped take down a runaway knifeman who fled from the emergency services earlier this week. 

Beloved police pet Moose has been praised after tracking down the man who was brandishing a knife. 

The incident happened on Hartington Road in Stockton at around 9pm on Tuesday, August 29, which saw police respond to reports of a man who was potentially in possession of a knife.

Moose and his handler attended the scene and after the male reportedly attempted to run, Moose detained him until officers arrived to arrest him.

A 50-year-old man was charged with a public order offence and is due to attend Teesside Magistrates Court on Friday, September 29. 

After the story of Moose's heroics was shared online, members of the public were quick to heap praise on the animal. 

Taking to social media, one person said: "Well done Moose," while another added: "Well done Moose and handler." 

This isn't the first time that police dogs have come to the rescue recently after two police dogs have been applauded after sniffing out two criminals, with one reportedly wearing a Kevlar vest and armed with an axe.

On Saturday, August 19, PD Odin assisted officers in tracking a man wanted for offences including domestic violence and affray.

Police believed the man was at an address in Chester-le-Street, wearing a Kevlar vest and armed with an axe.

PD Odin was deployed to the back of the address where the wanted man was quickly arrested by officers after being seized by the police dog.
