A family are appealing for any information after their North Yorkshire house was burgled and their savings stolen.

Jason Newall and his family returned from holiday to find their house on Whitefields Drive, Richmond, had been turned over.

Four-and-a-half years of wedding savings had been stolen.

They are appealing to their neighbours to check any security camera footage from the time they were on holiday.

Mr Newall said: "My mother-in-law cleaned our house on Monday (August 21) and Tuesday.

"She finished downstairs and planned to finish it off on Friday.

"She came and upened the door and she saw stuff everywhere.

"She was scared to the bone. She immediately left and and rang the police.

"I want to find who did this.

"It just feels like a bit of a betrayal. I think someone in town knows us and knew that we were on holiday.

"The thing I want to emphasise is that it would really help if people check their security cameras and Ring doorbells.

"My gut says they were on foot so if people spot anyone looking suspicious or out of place then please let me know.

"Our wifi cable was cut at 10.51pm on August 24. If people could check between 10pm and 1am that would be really helpful.

"A lot of the money stolen was cash so if businesses have any customers come in with lots of £2, £1, 50p coins to change please be alert.

"There were a lot of very crumpled bank notes too."

The family hope that people across the town check their footage as they believe the culprit walked away on foot.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a burglary at a house on Whitefields Drive, Richmond that happened some time between August 21 and 25 while the occupants were away.

"The suspects stole jewellery and an amount of cash.
