1. Let’s get ready to crumble. At Bumble Crumble in Darlington
Let me first preface this by saying that I don’t think I have eaten as much dessert since the start of the year, let alone crumble. But since Bumble Crumble opened its doors in Darlington’s indoor market just under two months ago, the classic British dessert has had a hold over me.
Bumble Crumble opened its doors on West Row, Darlington mid-June and it’s safe to say the café has been a hit with crumble lovers across the town, regularly selling out of the sweet, buttery treat.
Since opening I have tried a few different varieties of the crumbles on offer- from classic crumble topping to granola, and trying it with both ice cream and custard, so I feel I’ve earned the self-appointed title of The Northern Echo’s crumble connoisseur.
2. Two men jailed for violence at Shildon pub funeral wake
Three members of a family who “kicked off” at a pub wake following a funeral brought about the premature closure of the premises, a court heard.
Daniel Collingwood, Robert Collingwood and Tina Peacock were involved at different levels in a disturbance in which a barmaid and co-landlord of the Three Tuns, in Shildon, were attacked and glasses were smashed.
Durham Crown Court was told the trio were among a number of people present at the wake, at the pub, in Association Street, on the evening of June 28, last year.
3. In pictures: James take to the stage at Darlington Arena
Fans flocked from around the region to see icons James headline Darlington Arena last night along with Editors, Newcastle-based Maximo Park and more.
The rain did not deter fans from flocking to the biggest music event in Darlington of the year as thousands gathered for a day of music from a host of bands.
Last night's show was the only North East appearance the 'Laid' legends were playing adding to a lineup of a host of huge names who have played in the North East this summer, including Sam Fender and Beyonce.
4. ECHO MEMORIES: Secret rooftop garden at Barclays on Darlington’s High Row
It is judging time, and time for a town to reveal both its blooming and its banking secrets.
Last week, judges from Northumbria in Bloom have been casting their eyes over Darlington; today, adjudicators from Britain in Bloom will be in town to look at the planters, the hanging baskets, the green wall, the floral displays, the parks and the hidden town centre rooftop garden on the top of one of the landmark buildings.
As the judges wander around the town centre pondering great horticultural thoughts, Memories gives them a few historical facts.
