A car crashed through the front window of a shop this morning (Tuesday, August 15), injuring one, closing the road, and causing significant damage to the store.
Stewart Eyecare, in Whickham, Gateshead was left significantly damaged by the incident, and one person was taken to hospital for injuries that are "believed not to be life-threatening."
The car has now been recovered from the Front Street shop.
The crash occurred around 9.45 am this morning, with a video appearing to show a car that had reversed through the shop window.
As the shop is located on a junction, Fellside Road and Front Street were both closed, resulting in significant congestion throughout the village.
The roads are now fully reopened, with traffic easing.
