Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving a motorcycle in a County Durham village today (Wednesday, July 5).
Emergency services converged on West Road, Greencroft, Annfield Plain, shortly before noon, after reports of a collision at the road's junction with Loud Terrace.
Two helicopters from the Great North Air Ambulance Services, as well as three ambulance crews and clinical team leader, along with police and fire service, attended the scene.
Paramedics and an air ambulance doctor helped three people who were injured, before they were taken by road to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.
The road remained closed for several hours while collision an investigation unit inspected the scene.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 11.45am this morning (July 5) to reports of a three-vehicle collision on Loud Terrace, Annfield Plain, Stanley.
"Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
"The road remains closed from the A693. "
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 11.40am this morning (Wednesday 5 July) to reports of a road traffic incident on Loud Terrace, Annfield Plain.
"We dispatched three ambulance crews and a clinical team leader to the scene, and were supported by our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), Durham Constabulary, and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
"Three patients were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "Our critical care teams based in Teesside and Cumbria were activated before 12pm to reports of a road traffic collision near Stanley.
"We had a doctor and paramedic team onboard both aircrafts and after they arrived on scene they assessed and treated the patients.
