A cyclist has been left with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a van late at night on Wednesday (May 3), in Gateshead.
The man is now in a critical but stable condition, and police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Around 11.40 pm on Wednesday (May 3), a Mercedes minibus and a man on a bicycle collided on the A694 Lockhaugh Road at the junction with Sherburn Park Drive, in Rowlands Gill.
The cyclist, aged 44, suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision but was taken to hospital for treatment hospital, and the police have confirmed that he is in a stable but critical condition.

The driver of the minibus remained at the scene following the collision to assist officers with their enquiries.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police requested any witnesses come forward: “We are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or those with dash cam footage, to get in contact.
“Anyone with information should use the ‘Tell us Something’ page of our website or call 101, quoting NP-20230503-1443.”
