A person has tragically died on train tracks near Redcar Central station this morning (Friday, May 5).
Emergency services rushed to Redcar railway at 6.13 am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics declared the person dead at the scene.
The line was blocked for much of the morning, with services facing cancellations and heavy delays through rush hour and into the rest of the morning. Disruption continued until around 3 pm.

The British Transport Police has confirmed it is now working to establish the circumstances of the incident.
A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers were called to Redcar at 6.13 am on 5 May following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the person and establish the circumstances behind their death.”
