An elderly tractor driver has been left hospitalised after a crash with a car over the weekend.

The incident occurred shortly before 2pm on Saturday (April 22) afternoon when a car and tractor collided on Stannersford Road in Crawcrook.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and the acene and the 91-year-old tractor driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He is understood to be in a critical but stable condition.

Police have now launched an investigation into the incident and are looking for witnesses who may have seen a white BMW in the area close to the time.

Northumbria Police said: “Officers investigating a serious collision that left a pensioner hospitalised are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Police are now asking anybody who witnessed the collision, or who were in the area and may have seen a white BMW travelling before the collision, to come forward.
