Dramatic photos show a car fire in Stockton, which occurred just after 1.30 pm today (March 25). 

The Norton Road incident shocked witnesses when flames erupted from the bonnet of a black Mercedes.

The incident did block Norton Road for a period, as Cleveland Fire Brigade put out the car fire, and although traffic is now moving in the area, there is still residual congestion. 

One eyewitness said that the driver of the car got back into the vehicle whilst it was still ablaze, to retrieve his shopping.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to the scene at 1.39 pm following reports of one car on fire.

It is believed no one was seriously hurt during the incident.
